Hi all!
It's been a while since my last blog post but I've been very busy with orders, work, school, being outside, and having my lovely friend come and visit me on the island this weekend. I took her to one of my favorite discoveries this morning. Jam!

It's a small and lovely breakfast and lunch restaurant that has the most creative and trendy food around. We started with lavender lemonade, which was served to us in mason jars. It was so fragrant and refreshing and as Rio mentioned: everything tastes better out of a mason jar.

For our meal, I had the three little pigs. Three sausages battered like a corn dog, to be dipped in syrup and piled ontop of a fresh plate of fruit. Rio had the green eggs and ham, a meal I'm sure she enjoyed at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Given the size.

Take a look at some of the photo's from our brunch, and if you're ever in Victoria you must try this place out!

Ok now, before you read this post remember that is is completely natural to be jealous of a me when I have such a lovely, thoughtful and creative mother. My parents are in Hawaii right now soaking up the sun, sipping on daiquiri's and forgetting the troubles under the palm trees. (Don't ask my why, but my parents love daiquiri's!) However it's hard for me to be too upset about the fact that they are there, because it is incredibly beautiful and warm here on Vancouver Island! Flowers popping up everywhere, birds chirping and the warm sun only slightly cooled off by a salty, gentle breeze. Anyway, being the thoughtful and warm person she is, decided to send me an Easter package. Now this was no ordinary package. First of all it was massive, second of all it was extravagent! Perhaps she was feeling guilty that she's in Hawaii doing all the fabulous shopping sans her darling daughter. Regardless of purpose, this package was to die for. So like I said, don't be jealous, just enjoy checking out what I received in the mail today

Hey everyone!
So, a lot of you know that I use recycled wood for all of my pieces, and some of you probably know that I use wood that comes from wineries, but i thought it would be neat to show you exactly where my wood comes from, this barrel here is used to make the pieces that look like this:

Here is the wine barrel that my dad brings home from his work. It is used several times before it can no longer be used for wine making. Once it is not being used anymore, we can have it or sometimes we have to pay 20 dollars for it. However I think that's worth it since it makes so many pieces.

Next is to pry it apart, This requires heavy lifting from my dad.

Here is a picture of where we took a slat of, these are "wine diamonds".

Now I slice up all the pieces to be smaller so I can move onto the next step.

And cut off all the purple part so I can be left with just the white oak!

Ok, so seeing as I'm not going to give away all my making secrets today, that's all for now. I hope everyone enjoyed learning a little bit more about my work! Leave a comment if you have any questions or anything to add :)
